is Associate Professor of English at Franklin & Marshall College, where he has taught creative writing since 2012. He is the author of four books of nonfiction and occasionally writes about pop culture on his substack, Not Takes

Luca Ahn-Cooper

(She/her) My name is Luca Ahn-Cooper and I’m a senior at F&M! As a Government major and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies minor, I have thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to write in a different way than I have had to over the past 4 years. It’s been so much fun to write about pop culture moments I’ve loved and hated, connected with and obsessed over — while also getting to occasionally use my background knowledge of political science and gender studies to discuss different media through those lenses.

Sydney Birchard

Hi! My name is Sydney Birchard, and I’m a sophomore at F&M. I am on the women’s lacrosse team and am an English minor. I love listening to music, and I chose to take Pop Culture writing to give myself the opportunity to write about what I listen to.

Chessie Bovasso

Hi, I'm Chessie! I'm a senior with an environmental science major and an English minor. I am a huge music nerd, but I also enjoy looking at just about every other kind of media there is. I chose to take Pop Culture Writing to have a fun, creative outlet for my final English credit and final term of college!

Esther Burlington

Hi! I’m Esther, and I’m a junior Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major. This class was especially interesting to me because it combines creative writing with pop culture. Therefore, I can write about media that I love, and strengthen my writing skills in the process. As a biochem major, I don’t get many opportunities to write creatively, so this project also serves as my “brain break.”

Gaia dash

is a creative writing major at Franklin & Marshall College and an indiscriminate skeptic of all pop-culture critiques---except her own. When she's not writing thinkpieces on her favorite (and least favorite) albums or arguing with forty-year-olds in band tee shirts on the internet, you can find her playing with her band, going to concerts, and taking long, romantic walks on the beach.

Jordyn Faragalli

As a Public Health Major with an English Minor, I enjoy being a part of an interactive class, where I can express myself, especially through writing. I love exploring new music and media, and I have found a new passion for writing about music because of this class.

Sarah Henches

My name is Sarah Henches, and I am a freshman at F&M. I am an intended English Major. I am the Features/Investigative Editor for The College Reporter. I love everything pop culture -- consuming it or writing about it!

Frankie Kirchgessner

I am a Junior with a double major in Economics and Creative Writing. I am a mentor for Squash Aces and usually host a radio show with WFNM. I love analyzing film, television, music, and games. This class is a way for me to explore strategies used for writing about different forms of media and a platform to share my writing.

Vic Lambeth

(they/them) Creative writing major and film minor. I deal mostly in music, books, and movies, and tend to gravitate towards fiction. Favorite movies include Nope, Frankenstein (1931), Cabin in the Woods, and Dinner in America. My music taste fluctuates frequently, but most of it falls under punk, grunge, pop, glam rock, post-hardcore, alt indie, and emo. Some books that changed my life: Fahrenheit 451, Fight Club, Richard Sala’s comics, and anything by Susanna Clarke. In general, I love anything queer, bloody, or loud. Excited to be a part of Touch Grass’s editorial team!

Olivia Lounsbury

I'm a junior, double-majoring in English Creative Writing and Animal Behavior. This class is a way for me to step outside my comfort zone as a writer, learning how to write about the things I do or do not enjoy while remaining authentic to myself. It also gives me the opportunity to better myself as an editor for both my own and my peers' work.

Gab Neal

Hi! My name is Gab, and I’m a senior with a joint psychology and English creative writing major and a minor in anthropology. I wanted to take this class because I thought it would be both a fun and interesting topic to cover in a class setting, including incorporating creative writing for assignments, as I love interacting with multiple forms of media in my free time. I am excited for this magazine to come together because I’d love to see the class pieces published, with all the diverse kinds of media, all in one place!

Vincent Okyere Jr.

I'm Vincent, a freshman with an intended double major in Government and English on the pre-law track. I enjoy photography, videography, and graphic design, and also love playing the piano and soccer. As a person who loves engaging with media, I took this class to combine that passion with my love for English and to have an academic space as a creative outlet.

Ben Ostroski

Hi! I’m Ben Ostroski, a sophomore at F&M, as well as a member of the football and track teams at F&M. I am a writer who enjoys dissecting all aspects of music, film, and art as a whole. I’m especially interested in works that are enjoyable on the surface but, with thought, reveal deeper substance.

I chose to study Pop Culture Writing because I am deeply immersed in culture in my everyday life. Culture is an inescapable phenomenon, and understanding it is essential for connecting with others. The ability to portray popular media, music, shows, and more not only allows for freedom of expression but also highlights the compelling nature of culture.

When I was young, I wrote a lot of short stories (I even published a funny book (please see link below). I elected to take this class to strengthen my writing skills and also because I like pop culture.

Hi! I'm a senior at F&M with a double major in Environmental Science and Creative Writing. In addition to taking this class, I served as the Arts & Leisure Editor for our student-run newspaper, The College Reporter, so I enjoy reading and writing about new takes on pop culture! I love watching sitcoms (especially Friends) and listening to upbeat indie pop music!
