“Drowning,” Zach Bryan, 2026 (Song)

By Ben Ostroski

In his newest album, Zach Bryan pulls back the production and slows things down with a heartfelt sonnet describing the deep ocean of love. This new flavor of Bryan is a treat for listeners while still holding on to his signature sound. To feel the way he describes love, in his standout song “Drowning,” is what it means to fall for someone: overwhelming, consuming, and impossible to escape. How, after all, do you change your feelings? Why would you? “Keep me under the water completely/never want to swim when you’re the one that is holding me down,” Bryan sings by turning love into something as beautiful as it is terrifying. Rather than offering escape, the song finds comfort in surrendering and pushes the idea that real love means letting the current take you under.
