Mean Girls
By Gab Neal
Warning: Not spoiler-free, xoxo. “Get in, loser, we’re going shopping!” When picking up my friend in my car, I often make this reference to the comedy chick flick Mean Girls, which follows the main character, Cady Heron (played by Lindsay Lohan), who, after being homeschooled in South Africa, comes to a public high school in the suburbs of Illinois. Cady joins the popular girl clique, the Plastics, featuring the iconic queen bee, Regina George (played by Rachel McAdams). With quotable lines ranging from “I can’t go out, I’m sick. / Boo, you whore–” to “Oh my god, Karen, you can’t just ask people why they’re white,” Mean Girls is riddled with memorable moments and teenage girlhood relatability. The movie shows what it’s like to try to fit in to make it through the jungle gym that is the high school experience (peep the reference to the totally not toxic at all Burn Book). Cady speaks to girls like me who have always felt that need to belong, but the movie reveals something even deeper: a lesson to let go of cliques and stay true to yourself. In a hilarious, fashionable way, of course. Grade, after Cady realized it’s okay to be good at math: A+
