Ballet Flats: A Necessary Wardrobe Staple - Lauren Pierce

By: Lauren Pierce

A chic alternative to the kitten heel and an imitation of ballet footwear, ballet flats have become the ultimate all-around shoe. With the rise of “ballet-core” in 2022, a blush-pink aesthetic based on the dainty-ness of ballet became a trend. The style seemed to have no chance to stay relevant. However, as the baby pink has come and gone, ballet shoes are here to stay. I acquired my first pair in 2023: Steve Madden ballet flats in cherry red, with a one-inch heel. The color was bold, and the shoe quickly became a staple of my wardrobe. From class to my retail job, these shoes are incredibly versatile. My second pair are true flats, with a shiny nude color and a small bow embellishing the rounded tip. These shoes are so easy to throw on when you feel like “dressing up” your outfit, while being able to avoid blisters at all costs. Since its revival in popularity, the flat has become much more than a shiny plastic shoe. Adidas, Nike, Madewell, and many other brands have all added their own spin on a ballet flat: square toe, running insoles, straps. A flat for every person in the market. A cute new shoe for every season. 5 out of 5 Stars
